PEMBUATAN SABUN MANDI PADAT DENGAN EKSTRAK DAUN SIRIH MERAH MELALUI METODE COLD PROCESS
Abstract
The human body undergoes metabolism, which produces waste substances that must be removed. These waste materials need to be cleaned to prevent bacterial growth, and one effective method is through the use of soap. Soap is the result of a reaction between vegetable or animal oils and alkali. The addition of natural ingredients such as red betel leaf extract, which has antibacterial properties, can enhance the effectiveness of soap. This study aims to introduce the cold process method in soap making and to examine the effect of red betel leaf extract on the chemical properties of soap, particularly its pH level. The method used was field practice with two different soap-making techniques, referred to as method 1 and method 2. The results showed that soap produced using method 1 had a solid texture and a pH level that met SNI standards, namely 9.3 (1a) and 10.4 (1b). The success of this method is due to the complete dissolution of caustic soda in distilled water. In contrast, soap produced using method 2 had a softer texture with pH levels of 8.5 (2a) and 9 (2b), which were less optimal due to incomplete dissolution of the caustic soda. Additionally, soap containing red betel leaf extract showed a higher pH than soap without the extract.
